Thank you to everyone involved in organizing an amazing market for the students to buy gifts. We are so thankful for everyone of YOU who embraced this idea and donated over 1500 items to the market raising over $1200. This money will be used to purchase gifts off the Angel Tree and put towards Food Hampers & gifts for local families. We have so many people to thank for this successful market beginning with the Irvine School Staff who allowed us to run with this idea and jumped in to help every step of the way. All the volunteers who collected items, set up the market the night before and worked as elves the day of both shopping & wrapping with students junior kindergarten to grade 9! This day could not have happened without these amazing volunteers from both the parent council and other Irvine school parents. We thank you all for your time. To the skating rink for the use of the tables, the Irvine students for assisting in set up, hauling and clean up and everyone who lended a hand when they saw one was needed. It truly was a team effort in pulling off this amazing day! And a huge thank you to Annita K (a parent from Seven Persons school) for guiding us through our first Christmas Miracle Market. To Jenny Robinson for adding a little more spirit to the day with a visit from Olaf, thank you! Thank you to the parents of Irvine school for embracing the idea and sending money with their children to find those perfect gifts! Today the Junior High students got to say farewell to Nicolas. Nicolas was our exchange student who was here for a couple of weeks staying with the McIntyre family. Nicolas came to us from Columbia to enjoy part of the Canadian culture & weather and also to learn some more English! Today we said farewell and we held a small JH Celebration for him. The handmade letters were a nice break from the usual work items received in our daily mail. I can tell care was taken when making the cards so please let those responsible know the letters were much appreciated by all onboard. Note that we have proudly displayed them on the Ships office door of HMCS MONTREAL for all crew members to enjoy until the New Year. I’ve attached a couple photos, one of the letters on our door as well as a couple photos of the Ship, since you are in Alberta and probably don’t see many Canadian Warships there. Offering flexible part time hours, approximately two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. Spare drivers are also needed. Reminder our Christmas Market for students is happening this Wednesday, December 14th Christmas is coming! Christmas is coming! And so is our magic of Christmas market!!! Dec. 14 is the day! Donations can be dropped off at the school front desk beginning tomorrow (Dec. 8, 9, 12 & 13). Ahhh… the Magic of Christmas Market. I’m sending this to touch briefly on a few points… This is a market where you, as a parent, get to get rid of all of your gently used unwanted items. All the things that sit in boxes, that you might take to donation centers, that you might put in garage sales. Those are the things we are looking for! You bring them to our school. Donate them from the goodness of your heart knowing that they are going to be gifted to some very happy families this year. Your students then come to school with a list of people that they want to buy for, and $1 for every person that they have on that list. Every item big or small is $1. This is our first market so we ask that you learn with us. We ask that you limit the list to immediate family, or to a small number. The elves (volunteers) will lead the all the students in the school (in class groups) through the market to make their purchases. Then, we wrap and label them with the students and send them back to class with their treasures to take home. Depending on time and donations we may do a second round or extend the buying list. This is something we really can't predict until we are in the moment!! Things to keep in mind: Kids needs to haul their treasures home. Might want to think of that when donating and when list-making. Male gifts are often in short supply - great time to downsize those hat or tool bins! This is truly so special to all ages and for some is their only Christmas shopping. Items to donate? Knick knacks, hats, accessories, jewelry, candles, lotions, books, games. It really is for all ages and sizes so while all clothing isn’t recommended scarves, mitts, and things in that category usually do well. This isn’t about buying new to bring to us - it’s about donating what you already have. Gently used. Or maybe stored for years and never used. Today in CTF Foods we made mini Zucchini muffins for our Nutrition snack next week & also a selection of different cookies. The foods room smelt amazing ! We would like to give a huge shout out to #Safetybuzzcampus in Dunmore for donating lots of packages of ground beef to the school. They purchased the steer in our ADC auction in September and were kind enough to donate some of the meat back to the school. The ground beef will be used to make lunches for students that forget their lunch or are still a little hungry . We would like to send out a huge Thank you to Jenna Riess from our Parent Council, our parents who pick up and deliver the fresh fruit to the school every Monday so that the students get a selection of fresh fruit to eat throughout the day.
